Athlete Spotlight: Todd Gieshbrecht

Todd Gieshbrecht is a freshman playing on the Open Door Patriots soccer team this season. We asked him about playing Varsity Soccer and occasionally getting a start.

What is it like playing as a freshman on varsity soccer team?

I’m a freshman and I have 3 more years to get better so it’s a good experience to improve my skills.

What was it like before your first start?

I wasn’t very nervous but I was concerned that I would mess up but like I said it’s a good experience to play with people of a higher skill level.

How do you mentally prepare yourself for these games?

You need to focus on how you can help your team and not what you want, like passing and dropping and being a good teammate.

What motivates you the most to play?

My teammates and the players around me, and also as I’m playing I know I’m doing it all for the glory of God.
