1st Year at Open Door
For my sophomore year, I switched over from Avon High School to Open Door Christian Schools. It was a dramatic change going from a huge public school to a smaller Christian private school. I was more used to the overcrowded schools of Avon rather than the small school known as Open Door. I had gone to Avon schools for ten years and I was suddenly making this change. Nevertheless, I made the change as I felt a calling in my life from God to change how I live and pursue Him. So essentially, I came to Open Door because of faith and wish to fulfill 2 Corinthians 5:17 that tells us when we are in Christ, we are a new creation. It took a whole summer for me to decide to come to Open Door as I was split between my faith in God and my friends at Avon. In the end however, God’s calling won out and here I am. I still remember my first few weeks of awkwardness at this school. The only friends I had were on the basketball team and I struggled to find where I belong. At the beginning though, my faith did not strengthen as it actually weakened as I felt like I no longer needed God as He began to seem like “school” to me. After my first high school basketball season, things began to click and my faith in God grew. I began to fully appreciate the resources I had with all the wise Christians I had surrounding me. When I realized this, I began to see my dream glow again which was to spread the Gospel to people locally. And now here I am, writing an article for Modern Media with only a few days of school left. Reminiscing of old Avon memories while looking forward to what God has in store for me. I am glad I made the choice to switch here where I can be equipped with the armor of God in order to fight the evil that has tainted our world. Now, I am looking forward to my high school career as an Open Door Patriot.
