Athlete Spotlight: Jonah Eck
I had the privilege to interview Junior Jonah Eck for ODCS Press and ask him some questions about his experience with track.
How long have you been doing track?
“I have been running track since my freshman year in high school”
Do you prefer cross country or track?
“Cross country all the way”
How do you implement your faith into your athletics?
“By representing Christ with my actions like encouraging those (even my opponents) around me when I am running.”
What is your favorite thing about track?
“My favorite thing is probably just to hang with my friend and during practices and at meets.”
Would you recommend track to anybody and if so why?
“I would recommend track to those who are willing to work. Track is a sport where if you don’t push yourself in practice then you won’t push yourself in a race.”
What athlete do you most look up to?
“Dan Carmany has been a good friend and at times coach who has really encouraged me to push myself and to run when I really didn’t want to.”
How has running long distance benefited you in track?
“It has helped me immensely. Running cross country sets a very nice base for the track season. I knew that when I ran a 5:45 mile split for a 5k that I knew I had to be better than that for a single 1 mile in track and I was better (5:04 was my PR)”
