Now I know what you may be thinking, “‘Food is life’? That’s just a funny saying said by people who are enjoying their food!” But hear me out, it truly is! Not only is eating crucial to sustain life, but throughout the years cooking and eating has been made into an activity that is not only enjoyable, but fun, entertaining, and satisfying in the process.

The other day I was recalling all of the restaurants I had went to pre-covid, which lead me to think about Hibachi. I pondered about it’s history, and was in awe of the creativity behind it. In 1945, Japanese chefs combined entertainment with cooking, opening their first Hibachi restaurant called Misono. I find it fascinating how they saw the somewhat boring and tedious task of cooking and turned it into a fun show, juggling condiments and preparing flaming volcanoes for their hungry consumers.

I continued thinking about how they had turned that tedious task of cooking into something fun and memorable, and made a connection. Taking situations and turning them into something worth remembering or making them more enjoyable is something people should do during their daily lives. What if everyone looked at all the situations they are put in, and attempt to make the best out of them? It could be something simple like when you’re going to work on a long essay, you could turn on some music and make your environment more encouraging by opening windows or turning on colorful lights. If people did small things to make situations better for them, it could make life that much more enjoyable.
