Alcohol. For some students, this can be a major problem ranging from being raped, addicted, or being arrested. Drinking alcohol as an adolescent can harm you and hurt your future in the long run.
Underage drinking can affect your performance in the future. Studies have shown that those who drank in high school experience slower brain performance as adults. Also, some underage drinkers also may become addicted to alcohol causing permanent harm to the brain, high blood pressure, and even cancer. While under the influence, women are vulnerable to rape. Also, injuries are more common due to decreased brain performance. Not only does drinking have negative consequences, it is illegal for anyone to drink under the age of 21. In the Bible there are some verses that condemn drinking by calling it a sin such as Galatians 5:21, 1 Corinthians 6:10, and Romans 13:13. The verses state how drinking leads us away from our faith or hurts God’s temple which is our bodies. Such bad influences on our life would tend to lead us astray from proper ethics and Jesus Christ. Why do people drink alcohol in the first place? The answer to this is peer pressure. When one friend drinks at a party, most people would feel tempted to join them and “have fun”. Getting drunk and being completely vulnerable to danger doesn’t sound like a whole lot of “fun” to me. Even after being aware about the consequences, people still do it. Why is that? It’s mostly because some just accept alcohol as a part of life. There are so many better alternatives to drinking alcohol such as just drinking soda or non-spiked punch at a party or just simply do something else. Just have fun  hanging out with your friends without exposing yourself to alcohol. It’s that simple. While others accept alcohol, I choose to push it away and help others do the same in order to promote Christ and make this world a better place.
