On Monday September 11th, Open Door volleyball made their way to Clearview High School for a match both teams were looking forward to playing. The Patriots won in 3 sets (25-11, 25-9, 25-21).

The first play of a match is crucial. It can make or break the energy of the team, and the Patriots started the game off strong with Bianca Yakochuck’s kill. The Clippers battled, but it was not enough to get ahead of the Patriots. The Patriots were missing sophomore middle hitter Hannah Szunyogh, but Paige Pachinger did not miss a beat during the game. Pachinger is a freshman middle hitter, and has made amazing progress this season. She had 9 kills to lead the team versus the Clippers.  Pachinger was not the only freshman who got varsity time. Taylor Giesbrecht, Bronte Stafford-Crandall and Sammy Comer earned their time on the court as well. They kept up throughout the whole game and really showed that age is just a number on the court.

“It gives me a lot of confidence for the future, and it’s really exciting.” Freshman defensive specialist Sammy Comer said. “The team’s goal is to play in November, and that means that we get to regionals and then eventually state.” The team has a goal set and they’re ready to accomplish it.

While the Clippers struggled through the first two sets, they were determined to play the best they could and put up a fight in the third set. The Clippers fell short as Patriot middle hitter Rachel Faber got the winning kill to bring the match to an end. This year the Patriots are having an outstanding season, and they currently have an undefeated record (9-0). Their season is looking bright, as well as the many years to come.
