The Hiding Place;

On November 10th and 11th, ODCS high schoolers put on The Hiding Place, a play about Hitler’s German army seizing Holland and the beginning of persecuting Jews, 1937. The play is presented from the point of view of the lead Corrie Ten Boom, a watchmaker’s daughter.

This events of the play start off in the Dutch city Haarlem, 1937. Corrie and her family, the Ten Booms, are caught hiding Jews and are sent to a concentration camp during World War ll. Their Christian faith helped them endure the hardships they faced. The performance shared the difficulties these people had to face and how they held fast to their faith even when it’s hard. The main themes throughout the play are forgiveness, faithfulness, and gratitude.

The cast, a total of 26 people, put in an immense amount of  work to allow the audience to experience the deep emotions of this play. Lily Gamble as Corrie Ten Boom the lead of the play who delivered ver 260 lines, had a terrific performance. Lily exerted great energy as she is appeared in all of the scenes during the show. Jie Jie Harp played Betsie Ten Boom, another significant role.  Her faith and hope is constantly portrayed throughout the play. As the play ends, Betsie (Jie Jie) devastatingly dies at the concentration camp giving the audience a heavy heart. Abby Wall’s Senior performance is one to remember as she played multiple roles, Tine Ten Boom and the Gestapo Informant.  Abby’s support as an actress on and off the stage was really reflected in the performance.

In conclusion the performance of the Hiding Place was an amazing event. Leading the way for the future performances.
