The Open Door Patriots have had a great golf season and they are currently 10-1. Their star players,  Junior Will Giesbrecht and Senior Blake Hopkins have been putting a lot of work in this season and they have both been fighting for the number one spot.

“It’s been a good season, and we have won a lot this year.” Junior Will Giesbrecht shares.

Will Giesbrecht has won 5 matches this season and has had 7 rounds in the thirties and 4 rounds in the forties. Blake Hopkins has won 4 matches this season and has had 6 rounds in the thirties and 5 rounds in the forties. Giesbrecht has been averaging a score of 39.5 and 435 strokes total while Hopkins averages a score of 39.8 with 438 strokes total. Not only have both Giesbrecht and Hopkins been doing well, but many of the other golfers on this team have worked hard to win their matches this season as well.

Senior Tyler Reaser, Juniors Timothy Sooy and Titus Sooy, as well as Sophomores Evan Reed, Abby Hopkins and Coltan Burrer have put hard work into this season to be able to win the ten matches to this point. Unfortunately, both of the Sooy twins and Reed are unable to play the rest of the season due to OHSAA transfer rules. This leaves the team with 5 golfers, but the season shows that these 5 golfers can do well. We must watch til the end of the season and see how far this talented team can go.

The golf team plays in sectionals next Tuesday, September 26, 2023, and has their conference championship October 13, 2023.
